Funeral services for Jenny Clair Branan Tompkins, 79, of Livingston, Texas will be held Monday, September 16, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Harold Isaacs officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jenny was born July 29, 1945 in Houston, Texas, to parents, James Iverson Branan and Ester Louise (Butler) Branan. She passed away peacefully, September 13, 2024 in her home, in Livingston, Texas with her children, Carrie and John, and her husband, Leonard, by her side.

Jenny grew up in West University in Houston, Texas, graduating from Lamar High School. She attended Sam Houston State University and the Houston Business School.

She was introduced to Leonard by a Livingston cousin, Kent Atkinson. The two fell in love and married March 22, 1969. While raising her two children she was a beloved principal’s secretary at two elementary schools in Livingston for 25 years. She had many lasting friendships with the wonderful people she worked with.

Jenny and Leonard raised their children, Carrie and John, in the family home they built, and Jenny lived there for 51 of their 55 years of marriage.

Jenny’s two children, Carrie and John, and her five grandchildren were the joy of her life. Jenny loved to watch her children’s events over the years and sat on many bleachers and lawn chairs. But more than that, watching her grandchildren grow was her love. School events, sports events, high school and college events and graduations were special to her. Even with her terrible diagnosis of Alzheimer’s in 2021, she saw the marriage of her first grandchild, where she danced the night away and “had the best time of her life.”

Jenny loved being a homemaker before her illness. She enjoyed watching college sports and the Astros with Leonard. She never wanted to miss church and Bible study every Sunday and Wednesday at Bethel Baptist Church. Her husband of 55 years was her cook, cleaner and caretaker by himself the last 3 years of her life as Alzheimer’s took many parts of her away from her family. Leonard never left her side. In the last month of her life, she was in and out Jenny Clair Tompkins Funeral services Monday

of ERs, hospitals, and nursing homes before she was brought home to peacefully spend her last days with Leonard, Carrie, and John by her side as she met her savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

Jenny was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Don and Lynn. She is survived by her loving husband, Leonard Alfred Tompkins of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Carrie McAlister and husband Hollis of Kingwood, Texas and their children, Cole McAlister and wife Allie, Claire McAlister, and Cody McAlister; son, John Tompkins and wife Mandi of Lantana, Texas and their children, Jackson Tompkins and Audri Tompkins; sister, Peggy Kuenstle of Katy, Texas; sister-in-law, Janie Branan of Katy, Texas; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
