The Chester Lady Jackets are still alive in the playoffs, as they completely destroyed their last two opponents.  Chester defeated the High Island Lady Cardinals last week 23-2 in five innings and won against the Kennard Lady Tigers (18-3) on Tuesday, May 3 in the quarterfinal round.

Olivia Gilzow stood out for the Lady Jackets both offensively and defensively against High Island.  Gilzow hit a home run and struck out 11 batters during the game.

The Lady Jackets have moved up in the rankings and are now ranked tenth in the state among 1A teams.  The Lady Jackets have a huge series next week, as they will either take on Chireno or Wells in the regional semi-final round.

Yellowjacket Track and Field wrap up regionals

The Yellowjacket track teams wrapped up the 2022 season at the regional meet last weekend.  Although all athletes performed well, and many improved upon their personal bests, none qualified for the state meet.  The Jackets had two athletes advancing to the finals at the meet.  Audrey Gilzow placed fifth in the shot put and Anthony White finished in eighth place in the 110m hurdles and seventh place in the high jump.

Yellowjacket Golf

The Chester boys golf team will leave for the state golf meet on Sunday, May 8.  The meet will be held at Plum Creek Golf Course in Kyle, Texas, just outside of Austin.  The Jackets are led by freshman Will Thomason, who placed second overall in the regional meet a few weeks ago.  Thomason has been playing golf for several years and has had a strong start to his high school career.  Joining Thomason on the team are Carson Thomson, Luke Read, Jack Rayburn, and Cutter Lowe.  Coach Coleman Butter is very proud of how serious these boys have been about improving their game.  They have taken corrections and worked to apply them on the course.  The boys will be allowed to play a practice round on Sunday at Plum Creek.  The boys will then play 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday.
