Trojans play catchup to win

TRINITY — Playing the third-ranked team in your district is always rough, but Trinity was making a game of it, even taking a 23-15 lead into halftime.

However, that fire didn’t burn in the second half, and the Tigers dropped the Feb. 1 game against Coldspring 61-51

Coldspring was down 23-15 at halftime, a place it hasn’t been in some time, according to Head Coach Greg Devers. 

“Fifteen points were the fewest points that we had in seven years,” he said. “We were 6 of 31 shooting and 1 of 3 from the free throw line.”

The Trojans rallied in the second half as they outscored the Tigers 46 to 28, including 26 to 11 in the third quarter. 

Meanwhile, the Lady Trojans commanded the first three quarters against the Lady Tigers, staying anywhere from 12 to 20 points ahead.

However, the fourth quarter would see Trinity pull within two to scare the Lady Trojans; fouls and foul shots were what kept the lead firmly in the hands of the Lady Trojans, who won by 6.

The final score was 51-45.

Apple Springs

The Eagles lost to Wells 73-36 on Feb. 1. 

Dakota Campbell was the standout player.  

The Friday game against Laneville was cancelled due to the weather.

Centerville

The Bulldogs lost to Wells 63-39 on Feb. 4.

On Feb. 1, the Bulldogs lost to Neches 59-36.

Groveton

The Indians downed the Leon Cougars 47-32 on Saturday, but lost to Slocum 56-47 on Feb. 1.
