COLDSPRING — Coldspring-Oakhurst High School students are getting set for future opportunities as they prepare for the SAT and visit colleges.

On Wednesday, Oct. 6, more than 50 Coldspring-Oakhurst High School seniors traveled by bus to Lufkin to participate in Rowdy Week, a recruiting event for Angelina College.

Upon arrival, student ambassadors divided the students into groups and handed each student a Rowdy Week T-shirt. They learned college information such as the application process, degrees/certificates offered, student activities, housing, scholarships and tuition costs.

Students enjoyed a video presentation and walking tour, which were great ways to highlight college life at Angelina College. The students had a chance to view the various programs offered and also meet campus directors/professors at the Angelina Program Fair. With lunch at the campus cafeteria and a trip to the recreation center, the college field trip experience was complete.

Additionally, on Wednesday, 30 High School seniors will participate in SAT School Day. SAT School Day provides schools a way to offer the SAT to students on a school day during the week instead of disrupting weekend plans, jobs or family time. It provides students an opportunity to test in a familiar environment with people they know.

SAT School Day is another way COCISD is cultivating a college-going culture for the whole school.

"Nothing builds confidence like practice," said COCISD CCMR Counselor Kathryn Pedigo. "And thanks to teachers like James Smith, COHS students are getting ready for the upcoming college entry test. They have volunteered to attend a study hall session on either side of lunch each Monday for the last month in preparation for the SAT."
