WILLIS — Kayla Sommer put the days events into perspective.

As salutatorian for Shepherd High School’s graduating class, she said that the group was gathered together for their final act as a class, moving from youth to adulthood.

And, hopefully, maturity.

Kayla said that parents needed the most recognition and love, having the biggest burden moving the students through to graduation.

“This is the last day of our high school journey, and soon our adult life will start,” Kayla said. “We’ll discover our true selves, our true relationships and our true ambitions.”

Leslie Pena, valecdictorian, thanked the special people who helped her with her success through the past four years.

She also said the class has made the ultimate journey to becoming adults.

As well as diplomas, Valentina Beiza and Kayla Sommer were received the S Award as the school’s top students.
