Lady Lions cap perfect district run

CENTERVILLE – Lovelady Lady Lions put the finishing touches on an unbeaten district season with a 70-20 win over Centerville last Tuesday.
The District 20-2A champions finished with a 10-0 district record and carried a 20-14 season mark into their bi-district game against Cayuga on Tuesday. The winner advances to the area round later this week and will face the winner of the Bosqueville-Axtell matchup.
District runner-up Groveton opened the playoffs against Frankston while third seed Leon played LaPoynor.
Centerville, the district's fourth seed, was eliminated by Martins Mill 56-9 in bi-district on Monday night.
In the district finale against Centerville, the Lady Lions pitched a 21-0 shutout in the first quarter and led 37-4 at the break. Lovelady took a 48-12 lead into the final period and outscored their hosts by 14 in the final frame.
Lady Lion Aaliyah Jones led on the scoreboard with 21 points along with booking 3 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals.
Kylie Pugh had 12 points and 9 rebounds while Shelby Pugh had 11 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals.
Haley Davidson and Diara Woods both chipped in 8 points. In addition to scoring, Davidson had 4 assists and Woods grabbed 10 rebounds.
Addi Carney had 5 points and 4 rebounds; Haley Shupak had 3 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists, and Jayda Sherman had 2 points and 2 rebounds.
