Lady Lions cap perfect district run

LOVELADY – Winning a district championship is always satisfying, but going undefeated makes it even sweeter.
The Lovelady Lady Lions put the finishing touches on a perfect 12-0 district season last Tuesday before a home crowd on senior night.
Before the game, the Lady Lions recognized seniors Shyanne Pipkin, Mihyia Davis, Macie LaRue and Jada Johnson.
The Lady Lions (31-4), ranked No. 2 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association State Rankings and No. 5 in the TABC poll, opened the state playoffs Tuesday against Cross Roads.
Jumping out to a 34-6 first quarter lead, the Lady Lions went on to beat Grapeland, 94-15, in their final district game with five scorers in double figures.
Sophomore Aaliyah Jones recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, along with 5 steals.
Pipkin booked 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals and freshman Lexi Price was right behind with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals and 7 assists.
Davis finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists. LaRue chipped in 10 points, 4 rebounds, 6 steals and 3 assists.
Rounding out Lovelady's scoring were Shelby Pugh with 8, Haley Davidson 5, Jada Johnson 5 and Chelsea Butler 4.
