Heart Institute gives Lunch and Learn lecture

CROCKETT – February is National Heart Month, and in keeping with that theme, the Crockett Area Chamber of Commerce featured a representative from the Heart Institute of East Texas during their ‘Lunch and Learn’ meeting held on Thursday, Feb. 9.
Dr. George Vettiankal of The Heart Institute of East Texas gave a presentation on the importance of heart health and offered tips on how to stay ‘heart healthy.’ Statistics show that one in five Americans will develop heart failure in their lifetime. Heart failure is one of the leading causes of hospitalizations and readmissions in patients over 65 years.
The Heart Institute of East Texas was recently recognized by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) as Partners in Care with St. Luke’s Health-Memorial Lufkin for Heart Failure. The Institute is one of only two clinics in the entire State of Texas and the 11th in the nation to receive this recognition from the ACC.
