KENNARD – A Kennard man was arrested last week and issued a first-degree felony rape charge.
Michael Lynn Morgan, 38, was taken into custody by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, April 18, and remains in custody at the Houston County Jail. Morgan is charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony charge; enhanced by the victim’s age being under 14 years.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Morgan allegedly committed “two or more acts of sexual abuse against a child younger than 14 years of age.” The victim is reported as being 10 years of age.
The mother of the victim went to the authorities with the allegation against Morgan, and an interview was conducted with the victim at Kalin’s Center.
According to the affidavit, the incidents took place throughout a period of Feb. 23, 2022 to April 10, 2022, and consisted of three separate incidents.
In the interview, the victim detailed the alleged incidents of rape, which included inappropriate touching and an attempt to force oral sex, as well as indecent exposure from the suspect.
The victim also told the interviewer of how the suspect attempted to force intercourse upon her, but stopped when she felt pain and discomfort.
Morgan’s bond was set at $50,000. Under Texas Penal Code 21.02, if Morgan is convicted, he could face up to life in prison, “or for any term of not more than 99 years or less than 25 years.”
