TRINITY — An ordinance regarding towing services and the requirement to be on the rotation for the Police Department spurred discussion between Trinity City Council members on Thursday.
Council Member Bubba Smith said that he was concerned that the ordinance would be applied fairly and how that would be determined.
In particular, the ordinance requires that to be included on the rotation,the wrecker service must have a fenced lot, proper signage and someone on duty at all times, which is required by Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Smith said it would be difficult to enforce any regulations without inspecting the businesses, so he said he would contact TDLR and have them do an assessment of each service. Council members expressed concern about what could be done in the event of non-compliance, and Mayor Pro Tem Phillip Morrison said they could be removed from rotation. In a related matter, the manager of ATK Towing asked why his operation was shut down for three days, and questioned whether the city truly was fair in its application of ordinances.
Council Member Scott Womack said there was nothing the council could do about the past, but moving forward would ensure fairness.
In other business, the council:
•tabled bids for culvert repair on Jason Street;
•tabled a bid from Asset Marketing Pros for handling city auctions;
•canvassed the vote from the recent city election; and
•discussed paving Bette Street fully.
