CROCKETT – During the April 11 meeting of the Houston County Commissioners Court, April 21, 2023, was proclaimed “San Jacinto Day.” The request for the declaration was made by the Sons of the Republic of Texas in honor of the Battle of San Jacinto, which took place on April 21, 1836 - the day when the final battle of the Texas Revolution was fought, and Texas won its independence from Mexico.

The court also proclaimed the week of April 30 to May 7 as “Soil & Water Stewardship Week.”  The request for the proclamation was from the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB), which asked that districts across the state encourage the wise and productive use of natural resources to ensure clean and healthy environmental and economic growth.
