WOODVILLE – The annual citywide parade to honor the late civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 16 in Woodville.

Monday is the federally recognized MLK Day holiday, and the parade is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., where it will begin at the city park and go down MLK Drive to Gardner Street and to North Charlton, where it will conclude at the Kirby Gymnasium on the Woodville Elementary campus. A short program and luncheon will follow the parade in the elementary cafeteria, and this year’s theme is “Together we are the DREAM.”

According to event organizer Brenda Maloy, “We are inviting all the churches, schools, organizations and individuals of Tyler County to participate in our annual MLK Celebration.”

Participants can decorate their cars, floats, ATVs, or can just walk with the parade in order to honor King, for whose birthday the holiday marks.

“There will be awards given out during our short program for best entries,” Maloy said.

Maloy can be reached via email at [email protected] for those who wish to participate in the festivities.
