HOUSTON COUNTY – On March 16, a Texas Department of Public Safety report stated that a woman had died after a head-on collision on FM 229 near the 666-mile marker, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The accident happened around 7:15 a.m. when a 2005 Hyundai passenger car heading north drove into the oncoming lane in a curve, striking a southbound 2008 Jeep SUV.
According to DPS, Amanda Weaver, 43, the driver of the Hyundai, was taken to a local hospital, where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as 36-year-old Nadine Colbert, of Crockett, and an unidentified passenger, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
So far, no explanation has been released as to why Weaver was driving in the oncoming lane of traffic. This incident is under an ongoing DPS investigation and no further information is available.
