LOVELADY — Lovelady tracksters captured championships in the varsity boys and varsity girls divisions during their meet last Thursday at Lion Stadium.
The Lions accumulated 187 points to win the varsity boys title by a comfortable margin over Groveton, which had 140 points. Class 3A New Waverly took third with 97 points and Lovelady JV was fourth with 52 points.
In the girls division, Lovelady claimed the championship with 163 points. New Waverly was close behind in second place with 158 points and Groveton was third with 146.
The Lions won six gold medals and four silvers on their way to the team championship.
In the field events, Erik Castillo won the discus throw with a distance of 150'-5", Shaun Easterling was third with 113'-5.5 and Conner Kennon was fifth with 97'-0".
Led by Landen LeBlanc's winning height of 14'-0", the Lions dominated pole vault competition. Wiley (10'-6") was second, Peyton Larkin (10'-0") third and Barrett Stauffer (10'-0") was fourth.
Brandon Fry (36'-3") took second in triple jump and Davis (5'6") was third in high jump.
In shot put, Dayvian Skinner (44.8") was third, Castillo (40'-6") fifth and Jordan Blackmon (40'-5") sixth.
The Lions took first in two relays and two individual races.
The 400 relay team of JJ Crawford, Skylar Pipkin, Seth Enos and Jackson Jefferies clocked in with the winning time of 44.6. Groveton (45.52)was second and Lovelady JV (48.04) was third.
Lovelady's Seth Enos, Caysen Wilson, Kye Terry and Jackson Jefferies won the 1600 relay with a time of 3:40.71. The JV Lions were second with 3:50.28 and Groveton was close on their heels in third with 3:50.65.
In the 800 relay, Groveton came in first with a time of 1:35.43. The Lions finished second with a 1:37.75 posted by JJ Crawford, Clifton Davis,
Blake Patrick and Kye Terry. Oakwood (1:42.18) was third and Lovelady JV (1:42.40) was fourth.
Shaun Easterling won the 110 hurdles with a 15.99, J.D. Gatlin (18:59) was fourth and Lion JV runner Lucky Holbrook (19.16) was fifth.
In the 400-meter run, Jefferies was first with 52.81 and Enos was third with 54.03.
In the 800 run, Aiden McIntyre placed second with 2:18.16 and Aiden McCelvey was sixth with 2:30.88. McIntyre also placed sixth in the 1600 run.
The Lions made a three-four-five showing in the 300 hurdles. Gatlin (46.81) was third, followed by Terry (47.96) and Rains (48.28) of the JV.
Lion JV athlete Courtney Whitaker placed third in long jump (18'-10.5") and triple jump (36'-0").
In the girls meet, the Lady Lions racked up three gold medals and seven silvers.
Kylie Pugh, who finished fifth at state in discus throw last year, easily won with a distance of 117'-7.5". Groveton took second with 79'-4.25" and Lovelady's Hollie Seidel was third with 75'-5".
Two Lady Lions battled in the pole vault. Rylee Wilson finished first at 8'-0" and Olivia Ice was second at 7'-0".
A'nyya Mitchell (32'-9") was second in triple jump and D'Ja Nyah Simpson (30'-8") was fourth.
Shawna Merchant took second in high jump with a 4'-8" and Maddie Ray was fourth in long jump with 13'-2.75".
In shot put, Seidell (28'-7") was second, Addi Carney (27'-10.5') was third and Kayleigh Easterling (27'-2") sixth.
The Lady Lion crew of D'Ja Nyah Simpson, Gracie McMahon, MaKenna Pierce and A'nyya Mitchell won gold in the 800 relay with a time of 1:52.28.
Lovelady's 400 and 1600 girls relay teams both captured silvers.
D'Ja Nyah Simpson, Gracie McMahon, MaKenna Pierce and A'nyya Mitchell placed second in the 400 with a 51.9.
The 1600 relay team of Maddie Ray, Gracie McMahon, Allison Hartley and MaKenna Pierce was second with 4:38.12.
Carney (13.75) was third in the 100 meter and sixth in the 200.
In the 400 meter run, Merchant (1:09.47) and Allison Hartley (1.09.93) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Three Lady Lions placed in the 100 hurdles. Mitchell (15:606) was second, M. Ray (17:56) fourth and Hanna Huffstuttler (17.71) sixth.
In 300 hurdles, Ray (54.23) took third and Ice (57.25) was sixth.
Skyler Reynolds (6:40.47) finished fifth in the 1600 run.
