The Lady Jacket volleyball team started the week off strong with a win by the JV and Varsity squads against Lovelady. Lily Read led offense with 12 kills, Marae Pounds had 9, Emma Byrd had three.
Byrd also led assist with 18. Pounds and Lily Payne each had six serving aces. Sydney Brock led defense with 14 digs. Lauren Citrano had 6, Emma Byrd had five. Citrano also had 13 service receptions while Sydney Brock had 10, and Lily Read had 8. The Lady Jackets continued their streak through the end of the week while participating in the Hardin Jefferson Tournament.
The Lady Jackets went 7-1 on the weekend beating 3A schools from Buna and East Chambers, 4A schools from Hardin Jefferson, Jasper, Vidor, and Little Cypress-Mauriceville. The Lady Jackets were undefeated in pool play on Thursday and Friday putting them in the gold bracket for Saturday. On Saturday morning the Lady Jackets defeated Hardin Jefferson in two sets with scores of 25-6, and 25-14. The Lady Jackets then met up with 5A West Fork in the game before the championship ultimately losing in two sets. The bracket was single elimination, so this loss ended the tournament for the Lady Jackets. The JV team participated in the Groveton Tournament finishing third with a 2-1 record. The JV Lady Jackets picked up wins from Crockett and Lovelady, and a loss to Groveton. This week the Lady Jackets host Colmesneil on Tuesday, September 10 and Garrison on Friday, Sept. 13.
The football game that was scheduled for Sept. 6 was canceled due to field conditions. They will face Leveretts Chapel this Friday, Sept. 13 with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at Aubry Bradley Stadium.
