Special to the Booster

WOODVILLE – On Sept. 7, Tyler County 4-H proudly took part in the Patriot Day Celebration, a day dedicated to honoring and remembering those who have served our nation.

A highlight of the event for Tyler County 4-H was the Quilts of Valor presentation, a meaningful tribute from the youth members of Tyler County 4-H to a local veteran. The ceremony, held at the VFW Post 2033, gathered community members, 4-H participants, and proud family members to recognize the sacrifices made by those in the military.

The Quilt of Valor, carefully crafted by the 4-H youth and volunteers, was presented to Royce Grissom as symbols of warmth, comfort, and gratitude. This handmade quilt carries deep significance, representing not only the skills and dedication of the 4-H members and volunteers, but also the heartfelt appreciation the community holds for those who have served in times of conflict.

The quilt was presented by 4-H members, Jubilee Johnston, Kinsley Johnson, Cara Whitney, Audrey McBride and Emma Tally, along with volunteers, Patricia Murders, Annie Braddock, Judy Bishop, Macy Johnson and Julie Cravy, some of whom have personal connections to the recipient. For the 4-H youth, it was an opportunity to express their respect for the brave men and women who have defended the nation, as well as to learn the value of service and community involvement.

The Quilts of Valor presentation is a testament to Tyler County 4-H’s commitment to fostering a spirit of service among the younger generation. Through this event, they honored not only the legacy of those who served but also showed how the values of patriotism, gratitude, and community stewardship are being passed down to future leaders.

As the event concluded, the veteran draped in his quilt and the applause from the audience highlighted the power of community and gratitude. The Tyler County 4-H’s contribution to the Patriots Day celebration serves as a reminder that honoring our heroes is a responsibility shared by all generations.

The Quilts of Valor presentation will undoubtedly become a cherished tradition in Tyler County, showcasing how the youth of today continue to uphold the values of respect, honor, and service that define our nation.
