Your pooch could be the prince/princess of pets

Monday was the end of an era for me. So many memorial events, places and people passed and were born during this period. With the demise of James Earl Jones — I need to say only two words: “Darth Vader” — who lived to be 93 years old, I am truly sad. His career and voice were unbelievable.

The Trinity Lions Club is hosting their first Pet Show on Oct. 26 at the Trinity Community Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. PETS, or the Pet Expo and Talent Show, is a fundraiser and project to serve the community promoted by the Trinity Lions Club President, Dr. Garry Reece, the Trinity Pet Clinic, and its members.

The fundraiser is to benefit the Martin Senior Citizen Center and the charities of the Trinity Lions Club. Entry fee to attend the show, PETS, is a can of food. This will be a fun filled day with photos, games, contests, and raffles.

All activities will take place in the Trinity Community Center along with vendors, and exhibitors. There will be security, and rest (poop) areas for your pets. All animals must be vaccinated (Texas Law) which means all puppies under 3 months old will be excluded from this event.

Pet Registration starts at 10 am and animal behavior to enter show will be determined at this time. Set up starts at 8 am on Saturday morning in the Center for vendor booths and exhibitors. Displays and contests will start at 10 a.m. also.

These dog contests are planned: matching dog and owner, best dog vocalist, best-dressed canine, fastest tail wag and best K9 Halloween costume. All events will take place in the Trinity Community Center, except for the food and drink vendor booths that will be located outside the building.

• It is hard to believe the 75th Trinity Community Fair is next week. The Trinity County News-Standard has the schedule, times, and animal events for you on the front page, so I will not elaborate here.

For the last five years, the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce has sponsored a 42 Domino Tournament at Joseph’s Restaurant to commemorate the Trinity Community Fair. The older players outgrew the Annex Room at the Trinity Community Center, and the parking at Joseph’s is easier here for this event.

The registration for the 42 Domino Tournament starts at 9 a.m. and the cost is $15 for each player. The games start at 10 a.m. At noon they break for lunch and start again at 1 p.m. and play until 3 p.m.

Cash prizes and certificates are presented to the top two partners for first-, second- and third-place winners. Our new host for the tournament this year is Kelly Hartsfield, who has overseen this event for the last two years and was mentored by Daisy Holland.

• Speaking of games, how about the Trinity Tigers and their first two wins of the 2024-2025 Football Season. Way to go, Tigers!
