WOODVILLE – In a short meeting of the Tyler County Commissioners Court on Tuesday morning, county officials voted to appoint a three-member committee to advise on infrastructure projects potentially effecting the county.

The item had been tabled last month, by the court. County Judge Milton Powers said then that the idea of appointing the committee was to keep the commissioners abreast of potential impacts for the many infrastructure projects coming up in the near future.

Steve Pittman, who was instrumental in coming up with an alternative route to submit to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the relief route project, was appointed to the committee. Pct. 3 Commissioner Mike Marshall, who motioned to remove the agenda item from being tabled, added the names of Cathy Bennett and Scott Yosko, whom Powers had wanted to appoint.

Provisions approved for coming fly-in event

The commissioners approved a pair of agenda items for provisions for the coming Fly-In and Food Truck Festival at the Tyler County Airport on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Pct. 1 Commissioner Joe Blacksher said the rental of an avgas (aviation fuel) fuel truck and portable restrooms and a wash station for the event will be paid from the economic development fund.

The event, which is being hosted by the Tyler County Chamber of Commerce, will feature an aviation meet-up with pilots showing off planes, and a group from Conroe offering rides for attendees, as well as a spate of food trucks and craft vendors.

Pertaining to the airport and coming improvements there, Blacksher spoke during the portion of the meeting set aside for court members to speak on any matters pertaining to county government.

“We’re getting a bid on some tanks, and we need to take a good look at that…we need to take a step in that direction,” Blacksher said, and later cited growth to come from the Naskila Casino expansion project that is coming.

Other Business

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Tyler County Commissioners Court also approved:

• Renewal of a service agreement with the Otis Elevator corporation, with the adjusted price of $3,014.52, for August 31, 2024 through July 31, 2025.

• The commissioners approved the appointment of Leticia Mannino as commissioner to the Emergency Services District #2, to replace previous appointee Wayne Rawls, who declined.
