The Super Says

As we progress into the 2024-2025 school year, school attendance is critical to our student’s success.  Regular attendance creates opportunities to grow, learn, compete, and thrive. When students attend school regularly, they benefit from:

Continuous Learning: Every day counts in a student’s educational journey. Missing school means missing out on valuable instruction and the chance to build upon previous lessons.

Social and Emotional Development: School provides more than academics; it’s a place for social interaction and emotional development. Regular attendance helps students develop crucial social skills and form supportive relationships.

Preparation for the Future: Early attendance habits prepare students for future responsibilities in higher education and the workforce.

The converse is true for our students who do not attend regularly because absenteeism exacerbates achievement gaps between students from different income backgrounds. Missing school results in missed instructional time, making it harder for these students to keep up academically and achieve at grade level.

Missing a day of school here and there does not seem like enough time to make a difference. However, the following data proves different. When a student misses two (2)  days a month:

They miss 20 days a school year

They miss 20-30 hours of each academic subject

By graduation, they will have missed an entire year of school

They miss interactions with their peers

They jeopardize their ability to play athletics or participate in marching band

How do we overcome this issue of missing school?

Supporting Our Students: We understand that challenges may arise that affect attendance. Our school community is committed to providing support and resources to help students and families overcome these challenges and prioritize regular attendance.

Partnership for Success: Parents, guardians, caregivers, and community members play a vital role in promoting attendance. Your encouragement and support reinforce the importance of attending school every day and on time. Together, we can create an environment where students feel motivated and empowered to succeed.

Our Commitment: As school leaders, we are dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every student feels valued and encouraged to attend school regularly. We will continue to monitor attendance closely, address concerns promptly, and celebrate improvements together.

Remember, please let us know when your student will be absent by calling the front office and detailing the reason for missed attendance. We ask that you follow up with a doctor’s note or a note from home so that we can document the absence. Communication is key in the parent-school relationship!
