The Lady Jackets had a week on the road travelling to Latexo on Tuesday, August 27 and then Anahuac on Friday, August 30. On Tuesday the Lady Jackets racked up 35 kills, 18 aces, and 40 digs in the three-set sweep against the Lady Tigers. 

Scores were 25-22, 25-11, and 25-23. Marae Pounds led kills with 14, Lily Read was right behind her with 13. Lily Payne had 4, Emma Byrd 3, and Josie Pecina had one. Payne led in aces with 5, Lauren Citrano had 4, Marae Pounds 3, Sydney Brock, Emma Byrd, and Kyli Handley each had 2. Brock led defense with 24 digs. Kyli Handley had 6, Lauren Citrano had 5, and Emma Byrd had 2. Byrd also had 26 assists. 

On Friday the Lady Jackets had no problem in the sweep against 3A Anahuac with scores of 25-14, 25-21, and 25-4. Lily Read had 18 of the teams 45 kills. Read also had eight digs. Marae Pounds had eight kills, seven aces and one dig. Lauren Citrano had five kills, six aces and seven digs. Emma Byrd had three kills and 41 assists. Ty Cochran had a good night on the net with two blocks and five kills. 

Kyli Handley ended the night with two service receptions, one assist and three digs. Lily Payne had five kills. Sydney Brock led defense with 20 digs and 19 service receptions. The Lady Jackets will host Lovelady on Sept. 3 and then Sept. 5, 6 and 7 participate in the Hardin Jefferson Tournament. 

On Thursday, Sept. 5 the Lady Jackets will start the tournament off playing Buna at 9:45 a.m., Jasper at 11 a.m., and Hardin Jefferson and 1:30 p.m. Pool play on Friday and bracket play on Saturday will be determined according to pool play on Thursday. 


‘Jackets play Wolverines

The Yellowjacket football team and fans traveled three hours to Penelope on Friday, August 30 to face the Wolverines who are ranked 24th in class 1A. Chester is ranked 47th. 

Coach Coleman Butter stated that there were lots of great plays on both sides of the ball. 

Butter also said that the game was very physical but the Jackets came away with the 51-22 win and no injuries. Defense played a great game led by Senior Kevron Green with 11 tackles and two fumble recoveries. 

Jesse Bittick had eight tackles with one forced fumble, Jaxon Gay had seven tackles, Kasen Citrano had six tackles, one fumble recovery, and one interception. Jayse Gay and Blake Zulpo had four tackles, Zulpo also had a forced fumble. Clay Busey had two tackles. Bryson Swanson, Cutter Lowe, James Aiena each had one tackle. The offense racked up a total of 407 yards led by Jaxon Gay and Jesse Bittick. 

Bittick had 14 carries for 128 yards with three touchdowns, and two catches for 12 yards. Gay had 16 carries for 154 yards with two touchdowns, one catch for 29 yards. Kasen Citrano had three carries for seven yards with one touchdown. Kevron Green, Cutter Lowe and Rex Gilzow each had one catch. 

This week the Jackets will be on the road again to Galveston O’Connell on Friday, Sept. 6, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
