SHEPHERD — The Shepherd Pirates have improved their play in the new season, but not enough to stop the visiting Kirbyville Wildcats.

The Wildcats drew first blood with a 21-yard sideline pass, but with 3:02 on the first-quarter clock, Pirate Landen Dillinger tosses a quickie pass from the 15 to wide-open Preston Stephens for the first TD of the night for Shepherd.

The teams traded TDs in the second quarter, with Shepherd taking the lead after a 2-point conversion.

The momentum shifted drastically in the second half, as Kirbyville held Shepherd scoreless while racking up three more touchdowns.

Head Coach Miles Robison said, “We need to get healthy and in shape; we just ran out of gas in the second half and Kirbyville took advantage of it.”

The Pirates had 383 yards total offense, with Preston Stephens having 21 carries at 191 yards with rushing and receiving TDs. Javaris Marsh had 71 yards on 10 carries.

The Defense was led by Eduardo Jaime with eight tackles and Braydon White with seven. Jamil Butler had one Interception during the game.

Next Friday is the Battle of San Jacinto County, with Shepherd facing off against host Coldspring.
