TYLER COUNTY – In times of loss, communities will band together to show support however that support is needed.

Last week, on Thursday, August 22, Donald and Melanie Calhoon lost their 20-year-old daughter Sadie Jayne, suddenly and unexpectedly. Both of the Calhoons are long-time servants of the community, and Donald, who has worked in law enforcement for many years with the Tyler County Sheriff’s Office, and was recently hired as an investigator for the District Attorney’s office.

Sadie Calhoon, who graduated from Colmesneil High School in 2022, was attending Texas Tech, and was in Lubbock at the time of her passing.

Tyler County DA Lucas Babin has set up a Go Fund Me account to help benefit the Calhoons in light of their tragic loss. The fundraiser can be found through the Go Fund Me site by searching for the name “Support the Calhoon Family in Their Loss.”

As Babin explained, the Calhoons have three younger children and will face a number of expenses associated with their loss, including travel, accomodations and funeral services. “Please contribute to help their family during this difficult time,” he said.

In addition to the online fundraising effort, an account has been set up in the name of Donald or Melanie Calhoon at Stellar Bank in Woodville, and checks can be made out to either of them, and the bank will fill in the rest of the information that is pertinent for deposit.
