Shorter days mark start of fall festival season

Have you noticed that the days are getting shorter now? You can almost smell apple cider in the air, and with the small rain shower on Monday you could also imagine fall was on the way.

Last week I announced the prizes for the Wall of Honor Fundraiser that will be held on Oct. 26 at Scheelbillies on FM 356 in Trinity. I need to make a correction on the article.

You do not have to be present to win the raffle drawings. The event is from noon until 6 p.m., and provides food, music, and auctions for you to support our Trinity County Veterans’ fundraiser.

Another event in October that I announced for Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Prospect Drive in Trinity is their Fall Festival that is to be on Oct. 20 from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

However, I failed to mention their pre-festival activity to be held on Oct. 19. The church is hosting a barbecue and bingo night that begins at 5 p.m. Each barbecue plate is $15 each, and the bingo cards are $100 each.  Call Iris Alantis for more information.

•New event coming up for September:

Calvary Baptist Church located at 310 Prospect Drive in Trinity will be starting their Awana program on Sept. 4.

Every Wednesday during the school year from 6-7:30 p.m., children from kindergarten to fifth grade can attend this fun-filled spiritual program. For more information call the office at (936) 594-3611.

•Repeat Calendar for September:

Trinity Community Fair Association’s 75th annual fair is Sept. 19-21. This livestock, vendor/craft show, and carnival is one of the last free fairs in Texas.

TISD students and faculty have the day off that Friday.

The theme for the TCFA Fair this year is “Hats Off to 75 Years.” Applications and rules for the fair booths, inside and outside, have been put on the internet/Facebook for downloading.

There are some new additions and old reminders to this year’s guidelines, and you must adhere to these rules, or you will not be invited back to participate next year.

If you cannot use this method of entry, please contact Kim Spillman for more information and how to obtain forms at (936) 661-1568.

•The Circle of Brothers is hosting a steak night Sept. 21 at the White Rock City Marina, 819 White Rock Road in Trinity, from 6-9 p.m.

The menu is steak, baked potato, salad, and a roll for $25. Reserve your steak ahead of time by calling (936) 662-9471 or (936) 662-2917.

•A “save the date” is Sept. 13-14 for “Lovestock” at Stesti Beer Garden in Lovelady. This is a musical festival for local musicians. Contact Ana at (832) 452-8575 for more information and sponsorships.

•Another new date is Sept. 20, the annual 42 Domino Tournament at Joseph’s Restaurant from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. hosted by Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. For more information, call me at (936) 537-8171.

The registration fee is $20 which includes lunch, snacks and cash prizes and starts at 9:00 am with the games starting at 10:00 am. For more information, call Julia at 936-537-8171.

Please call Melissa at (936) 661-8656 if you want a slab of ribs. See you there.
