Luttrell joins partners to address human trafficking

Special to the News-Times

HOUSTON -- Congressman Morgan Luttrell, R-Texas, met with the Homeland Security Investigations Houston Office, along with representatives from local schools, law enforcement, and community organizations, to participate in a panel discussion focused on combatting human trafficking and child exploitation.

The event brought together a diverse group of stakeholders dedicated to addressing the ongoing challenges posed by human trafficking in the community.

The panel addressed the current state of human trafficking in the region, with experts providing insight into the evolving tactics of traffickers and the multifaceted approaches required to combat this heinous crime. Congressman Luttrell expressed his commitment to supporting efforts at both the federal and local levels to protect vulnerable individuals.

"We cannot tolerate traffickers who force men, women, and children into modern day slavery," Luttrell said. “I am honored to stand alongside HSI, local law enforcement, educators, and advocates to combat this heinous crime."

The discussion also highlighted the critical work HSI does to combat child exploitation and human trafficking, emphasizing the importance of a Department of Homeland Security campaign, Know2Protect, a national public awareness campaign to prevent child sexual exploitation and abuse. Congressman Luttrell and the panel also received invaluable input from local law enforcement on efforts they believe would be most effective at the federal level.

Luttrell encouraged community members to stay vigilant and actively participate in efforts to protect the most vulnerable among us.

During his time in Congress, Luttrell has introduced multiple pieces of legislation on combatting human trafficking, including Empowering Law Enforcement to Fight Sex Trafficking Demand Act and Stop Human Trafficking of Unaccompanied Migrant Children Act.

Additionally, Luttrell penned an op-ed highlighting the urgency of addressing trafficking in our country.
