Town Hall in Houston County

Last Tuesday, I visited Latexo in Houston County for a town hall. This event was also an opportunity to recognize the Latexo UIL math team on winning their 12th consecutive state championship.

Coach Cravens and the students at Latexo represent the best of our community. I enjoyed getting to speak to constituents and engage in discussion about current events impacting our country, from localities to the federal level.

Thank you to everyone who came, town halls are an essential part of driving the change you want to see.

Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce

On Wednesday morning, I joined the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce as a guest speaker for their Governmental Affairs Program. This is a quarterly program hosted by the Lufkin/Angelina County Chamber of Commerce for their chamber “investors.”

This was a great opportunity for me to hear firsthand about the challenges and successes of local businesses. Through the dedication of community stakeholders working together to do their jobs well, we can ensure that our communities remain prosperous.

Texas Farm Bureau lunches

Throughout the week, I had the pleasure of sitting to lunch with members of the Texas Farm Bureau in East Texas and Central Texas. Keeping an open line of conversation between lawmakers and the agriculture community is crucial for developing legislation that is supportive of our producers.

We discussed the importance of passing the 2024 Farm Bill for funding the agricultural sphere.

Leadership at SFASU

Stephen F. Austin State University has welcomed a new president to oversee their top-notch academic and athletic programs, Dr. Weaver.

I got to meet President Weaver and discuss his plans for continued growth in enrollment and excellence in academics at SFASU. I am confident that the vibrant community of SFASU will thrive under the leadership of President Weaver.

Axe ‘em, Jacks!

Military Officers Association of America

Thursday night, I had the opportunity to address the Heart of Texas Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. The MOAA is the nation’s largest association of uniformed service members and their spouses.

Their mission of advocating for the military community through providing scholarships to children of uniformed servicemembers and supporting veterans in crisis is admirable. It was an honor to spend time with members of the MOAA.

Save the Date: Service Academy Forum

This September, my office will be hosting the 2024 Central Texas U.S. Service Academy Forum. This is a great opportunity for students, parents, and educators to come and learn about the admissions process to all five U.S. Service Academies.

The forum will include time to meet with congressional and academy representatives, an academy admissions panel, and congressional panel. There will also be opportunities to hear about the admissions process from parents, the Academy Board, and cadets/midshipmen.

Pete Sessions represents District 17, which includes Trinity County, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
