Lady Dogs take on Trinity, Gary

By Chris Edwards

The Colmesneil Lady Dogs have kicked off their season with a 3-0 win against the Trinity Lady Tigers.

The Lady Dogs’ JV squad played the Lady Tigers varsity girls, and according to Lady Dogs coach Otis Chunn, the girls “stayed in every game” in spite of a 0-3 loss.

The varsity came out with the win, in spite of some mistakes, Chunn said. They “played together and got the win.”

Outstanding players for the Lady Dogs varsity against Trinity were: Grace Fowler (setter) and Leane Jalamo. Chunn added that JV players to watch are Kimber Squier and Paisley Zinnante.

The Lady Dogs opened their season, officially, with a match against Gary, last Tuesday. The JV and varsity squads played the Lady Bobcats, and came up short 0-3. Chunn said the experience the team has accumulated showed during their match with Gary, but mistakes caught up to them. The JV Lady Dogs also lost, 0-2, but both teams showed improvements, Chunn said.

The varsity player of the game against Gary was River Squier, and her younger sister, Kimber, was the Player of the Game for the JV squad.

The Lady Dogs will take on Harmony Science on Friday, August 23, at home in the R.B. Moffett Gym, at 5 p.m.

The Colmesneil Bulldogs football team scrimmaged the Huntington Red Devils at Huntington last week, and they will scrimmage one more time, Thursday, August 22, against the Groveton Indians at home, at 6:30 p.m. The season for the ‘Dogs begins with a home game on Friday, August 30 against the Cushing Bearkats with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
