The Woodville Lady Eagles are on a hot streak to start out the 2024 volleyball season. Woodville is currently 10-0 after defeating Crockett on Tuesday and winning the Silsbee Tournament.

Woodville opened the season defeating the Bulldogs 25-6, 25-12 and 25-15.  Both JV1 and JV 2 won in straight sets as well.

On Thursday the Lady Eagles traveled to Silsbee where 12 area teams competed over three days. The day opened for Woodville with a 2-0 victory over the host team the Lady Tigers.  They continued the day with victories over Kirbyville and West Hardin.

Woodville completed pool play on Friday with victories over Deweyville, Kountze  and Beaumont United.

The Lady Eagles earned a spot in the single elimination in the Gold Bracket on Saturday.

Teams competing in the top bracket were Woodville, Orangefield, West Hardin, Kountze, Hemphill, Warren and Silsbee.   Other teams competing in the tournament were Beaumont United, Port Arthur Memorial, Evadale, Jasper,

Woodville would face Orangefield in the finals. Both teams entered the tournament undefeated.  Orangefield won the first set.  The Eagles stormed back in the second game 25-18. Woodville jumped out early and won the tournament on a serve out of bounds by the Bobcats.

Both Taylor and Tara Greer were selected to the All-Tournament Team. Coach Conner commented on the total team effort.  She highlighted the play of Aeva Corbin and KK Foster in the middle as well as Kaylee Clack filling in at multiple positions.

This is Coach Kayla Conner’s first tournament championship as a head coach and remarked, “When every game feels like a home game you got something special.”

She continued “Trusting one another to show up when others are down and finding a way to put the ball away when we are in need of big points and big serves, it’s looking good.”

The Lady Eagles will travel to the Tarkington Tournament Thursday through Saturday and host Kirbyville on Tuesday. The sub-varsity squads will travel to Jasper on Friday and host the Wildcats on Tuesday as well.

The cross-country teams will open their season in Corrigan and the high school football teams will scrimmage at home against Livingston on Thursday.
