MorganCROCKETT – A Kennard man was recently indicted by a Houston County Grand Jury on a first-degree felony rape charge.

Michael Lynn Morgan, 39, was handed down the indictment for continuous sexual abuse of a child in late January.

The indictment comes after an arrest in April of 2022 when he was charged with the offense after the mother of the alleged victim went to the authorities.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Morgan allegedly committed “two or more acts of sexual abuse against a child younger than 14 years of age.” The victim is reported as being 10 years of age.

The charge is enhanced, given the victim’s age is under 14 years at the time of the alleged incidents. The range of time for the alleged incidents was between February and April of last year.

In an interview conducted at Kalin’s Center with detectives, the victim detailed the alleged incidents, which included inappropriate touching and an attempt to force oral sex, as well as indecent exposure from the suspect.

The victim also told the interviewer of how the suspect attempted to force intercourse upon her but stopped when she felt pain and discomfort.

Under Texas Penal Code 21.02, if Morgan is convicted, he could face up to life in prison, “or for any term of not more than 99 years or less than 25 years.”

A trial date for Morgan has not been set.
