Library keeps your tots entertained

On Wednesday, Shepherd Library has Tales for Tiny Tots. Lately the Library was full of youngsters absorbing the fun of stories, games, snacks, song and dance and more.

Volunteers are gratefully welcomed and since the tots have their moms with them, they help out. Terri McIntyre, the director of the Library, told me how helpful Allyson Margison was and I enjoyed meeting her for lunch last week.

Allyson has two small children, a 2-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter. Her husband is a Smart Home Tech, which means he is smart and he works on putting smart systems into homes. Allyson is busy with her family when she is not studying to become an early childhood educator. The family includes dogs, cats, chickens and guinea pigs.

If you want to know more about the Wednesday program, call the Library at (936) 628-3515.

• Coldspring Library is collecting donations for its humungous garage sale in October. You can take your items to the Library, they have storage for them. They are famous for this sale, but please check with them before you take electronic items.

SJC Senior Center will have a Weight Loss Support Group starting on Wednesdays. Call them for times and information. They have acquired more than 10 people to start the group which it is hoped will become part of Weight Watchers if interest is consistent.

Charline says that the Senior Center will be selling stuffed baked potatoes on Aug. 31, which is Christmas in August round the Courthouse Square. This will be the event which was postponed due to the storm in July. Be Sure to visit and enjoy the vendors, food, activities and fun.

• The Animal Control Shelter on Highway 2025 holds an Adoption Day on the fourth Saturday every month. All dogs have shots and have been spayed or neutered. They are ready for a new home and one who has been there a very long time found a wonderful new home recently when he was adopted by a veteran.

Cinnamon spent some time being trained to follow orders, something at which he has proved to be very good. His new owner needs to use a walker and Cinnamon is an excellent companion, no pulling or running here. Call the Shelter for more information at (281) 450-9007, leave a message if needed.

• The gift-giving continued this week with checks being given by the Women’s League to Shepherd Senior Center and the Education Support Group. Now the organizations will start the new year in September to begin again fundraising for others.

Of course, it is also the intention to enjoy the camaraderie with others while listening to guest speakers and eating delicious lunches. The Garden Club and SJC Women’s League have Facebook pages. Both Chambers of Commerce are planning events in the future and have websites and Facebook pages.

• Willow & Grace Aesthetics LLC is the award-winning spa in Shepherd which was named the Top Spa 2024 at the Monarch Master Injectors Retreat. They were commended for their unstoppable energy, thirst for knowledge and technique. They have treated the highest number of appointments more than other spas.

Owners Guendy and Perla have created the spa from the suite at 11231 Highway 150 where Perla has her nail tech salon. This is a remarkable recognition for such a new business. The spa is certified to do Botox, slimming and vitamin injections, facials and more. Call (832) 966-1000.

Contact the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce at (210) 995-7420 or the Coldspring Chamber at (936) 653-2184.

Yvonne Cones is president of the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Coldspring Chamber of Commerce.
