SHEPHERD — The Shepherd ISD Board of Managers hired educational consultants Moak Casey to plan for the next five years.

Superintendent Dr. Jason Hewitt said that the district plans to engage in strategic planning this year, will use the Austin-based firm for that. The approval was made at the Thursday meeting.

Hewitt said they will set the next five-year course of action for academics, finances, and facilities, and establish district priorities, funding needs and make plans to implement the changes.

Some of the needs include maintenance, heating and air conditioning, repaving parking lots, and painting.

Hewitt also said the board discussed strategies for improving both students and staff by passing the regular goals and objectives the board has to approve every year.

In other business, the board:

• approved the 2025 senior trip to Disney;

• approved a resolution calling for an election in November, and Election Administrator Cheri Walker as early voting clerk;

• approved seeking quotes for a new heavy-duty truck for the ag department;

• approved changes to the compensation plan, which include job classification changes; and

• approved TASB delegate Yvonne Johnson and alternate will be John Few.
