City visits variance requests

SHEPHERD — The Shepherd City Council took three different tacks on granting property variances at its Aug. 12 meeting — approve, delay and table.

A request to place a manufactured home built in 1995 at 70 Oak Lane was delayed because council members had no pictures of the home.

City Secretary Debra Hagler said that since the home was almost 30 years old, city inspectors will need to inspect it for code compliance.

The council did grant a variance for Curtis Ainsworth to place a storage container at 58 Myrtie St., as the structure will not be visible from roadway and will be attached to an existing garage.

A request from Delsy Gonzales for a manufactured home variance at 260/270 N. Ross Ave. for a 2023 Cavco was tabled as the requestor was not present.

In other business, the council:

• appointed Wendell Williams to the EDC Board following the resignation of Jody Cronin;

• approved the order of election to be held Nov. 5;

• set a budget workshop for Aug. 22;

• approved the purchase of a crane truck for the Public Works Department to pull pumps for required maintenance, to be paid for using ARPA funds; and

• selected Kenneth LaVergne, Liles and Parker of Kingwood as the new city attorney.
