Cochran running for re-election

I am Judy Cochran, and I am seeking re-election as Mayor of the City of Livingston. With six years as Mayor and 13 years on the City Council, I have proudly dedicated my time, energy, and professional expertise to serving our community.

Over the past few years, we have witnessed remarkable growth in both our population and retail landscape. Our downtown, affectionately known as Main Street, is flourishing with new businesses and steadfast retailers.

To support this growth, the city has constructed two new water towers and expanded our electric, water, and sewer infrastructure. We recently secured a 50-year contract with the Trinity River Authority, ensuring a reliable treated water supply for our residents. Additionally, we have equipped all lift stations with generators so that even during power outages, our citizens can rely on essential services.

During the recent hurricane, our city crews responded quickly, safely restoring power to residents once transmission line repairs were made by Entergy. Crews also worked diligently to clear debris once they were able to do so.

For 35 years, our city has received the Financial Reporting Award of Excellence. Remarkably, we carry no debt and have not imposed a property tax since 1988. Our healthy reserve fund ensures we are well-prepared for any emergencies that may arise.

Our Police Department continues outstanding work, and I am pleased to report a significant decrease in the crime rate – 31.75% less than last year. We have prioritized safety in our schools, assigning a resource officer to each school in our district. Our dedicated Volunteer Fire Department provides invaluable service to Livingston and the surrounding areas.

Throughout my time in this community, I have actively engaged with various organizations, including the Methodist Church, Rotary Club, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Polk County Cares. I have also contributed to funding equipment for the hospital, supporting the College and Commerce Center, Habitat for Humanity, and the new Methodist church, along with scholarships for FFA, 4H, and the Audrii Cunningham Memorial. I was honored to receive the Polk Countian of the Year award from the Chamber of Commerce in 2001.

As I look ahead, my vision is to continue leading Livingston responsibly while embracing the opportunities that come with new growth – both in our population and retail sectors.

I would be grateful for your vote and support in this upcoming election. Together, let’s continue to make Livingston a thriving community for everyone.
