Fundraiser helps community safety

SJNT staff

COLDSPRING — For 40 years, SAAFE House and its team of advocates and volunteers have helped numerous people overcome sexual assault and domestic violence and rebuild their lives away from the trauma of abusive relationships.

As well as the dedication of its employees, the donations and funds provided by the people in its four-county service area ensure anyone needing those services can get help.

In San Jacinto County this year, the 40-year nniversary of the organization, SAAFE House again is holding its annual Lures & Lace Bingo fundraiser from 6-10 p.m. Aug. 24 at the San Jacinto County Storm Shelter, 255 Live Oak St., in Coldspring.

The price for the tickets and tables helps SAAFE House with its mission, and the money raised at the San Jacinto event is exclusively used in San Jacinto County.

Clients of SAAFE House are victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.

Tracy Stoudt, executive director, said the organization is planning for the future, which includes improved client services, trauma-informed care and putting clients first while working to educate the community.

SAAFE House also is looking for area residents who are passionate about its mission to help the organization continue to grow and would like to see people from its service area — Polk, Trinity, San Jacinto and Walker counties — come forward as volunteers from the communities that are served.

The bingo fundraiser will take place from 6-10 p.m. and includes 10 rounds of bingo with prizes for the winners, as well as food, silent and live auctions, and door prizes.

Call SAAFE House at (936) 291-3529, Shelby at (936) 284-5580 or Tammy at (936) 284-5547 to purchase tickets or tables, to donate, to become a sponsor or to volunteer.
