COLDSPRING — The Coldspring-Oakhurst CISD Board of Regents approved the overall district goals in preparation for the new school year.

Superintendent Dr. Bryan Taulton said that at the July 29 meeting, the board OK’d the goals, and at the August meeting will approve specific objectives and district criteria.

Taulton said those goals include continuing to improve student performance, continue to engage family and community in the education process, and focus on safety, making it a priority for students as well as staff.

Additionally, the board hopes to maintain transparency in finances, make sure the highest quality of employees are retained, and focus on socio-emotional awareness, the needs of the students, increased focus on mental health.

In other business, the board:

• discussed student progress on STAAR testing;

• approved the T-TESS calendar and appraisers;

• approved the student code of conduct and the stu dent and employee handbooks;

• approved the County Extension Agent as an adjunct educator; 

• approved changes to the district maternity leave policy to take into account the 4-day week;

• approved increases to the adult meal prices;

• approved budget amendments;

• approved soliciting bids for propane and waste management;

• nominated Board Member Berlin Bradford for the 2024 TASB Advocacy Convention;

• approved meeting dates for upcoming year, which will be held in front hallway of high school; 

• approved hiring new staff members, making the district fully staffed; and 

• approved extending the contract for the superintendent.
