Chester passes safety inspection

By Michael G. Maness

CHESTER – Chester Mayor Robert Poynter was pleased to report the Railroad Commission gave the Chester Gas Company a favorable review at the city’s regular meeting Monday evening, Aug 5.

In a letter from Stephanie Weidman, public safety director for the RC, she confirmed with an attached safety review that all was well in Chester.

Poynter related how he had spent time on the phone with RC lawyers and a commissioner cooperating with the investigation of a damaged line. After a thorough review, Poynter said the RC concurred that the damage was caused by sabotage, and that essentially released Chester from the possibility of a very hefty fine.

There was a brief discussion on the past-due accounts. City Secretary Balela Weaver explained how several were working closely to keep up.

The council went through their agenda briskly approving all actionable items before going into executive session.
