TRINITY — The Trinity Fire Department responded to a reported Union Pacific train engine on fire on Saturday morning.
Fire Chief Keith Johnson said the fire was reported to be on a train at the Tatom Street crossing on Highway 19 South at approximately 2 a.m. Saturday morning.
The first unit on scene reported the second engine behind the lead engine had a fire right behind the conductor cabin. The engineer and conductor turned the motor and electrical feeds off and firefighters were able to control the fire.
Harris said Union Pacific dispatched a maintenance truck to the location as firefighters stood by until they arrived. The engine was unable to operate so it was taken to the Palestine yard and another engine was brought back and train was moving by 5:30 a.m., Harris said.
