Investigation into assassination attempt continues

Last week, Director Kimberly Cheatle of the U.S. Secret Service appeared before the House Oversight Committee. Despite nearly three decades of experience, she had no answers for what went wrong in Butler, Penn., on July 13.

I urged her to take responsibility, stop playing a shell game and hiding behind the investigations of other agencies. She gave no confidence that she is leadership material, and her resignation is the first step towards responsibility.

The House will continue to press this issue as thousands of witnesses and whistleblowers come forward with information.

On Wednesday night, the House voted on HR 1367 — Establishing the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump. The task force will investigate and fully examine all actions related to the attempted assassination of President Trump.

They will report the final finding to the House by Dec. 13.

Committee Hearings

On top of the Oversight hearing with Director Cheatle, I participated in two other hearings.

My Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce examined the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. We went over their operations, legislative priorities, coordination between Inspector General offices, and proposals to prevent waste, fraud, and abuse.

Also, I participated in an Oversight Committee hearing to inspect the role of Pharmacy Benefit Managers, calling for transparency and accountability.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel addressed a joint session of Congress this Wednesday. He shared his vision for a peaceful Middle East, only to be achieved through continued partnership with the United States.

I stand with Israel’s right to self-defense and thank Prime Minister Netanyahu for visiting.

During the address, protestors took to the streets around the capital and committed shameful acts. The actions that took place at Union Station were utterly unacceptable.

I condemn these abhorrent acts as an assault on America.

Americans for Prosperity

On Thursday, Americans for Prosperity invited me to speak about my bill, HR 3129, the Health Care Fairness for All Act. This legislation promotes a personal option for patients and providers to ensure they are in control when it comes to health care coverage.

The bill would also reduce health care costs, promote price transparency and competition, and would allow all Americans to save and pay for health care with a tax-advantaged Roth Health Savings Account.

Legislative Highlights

• HR 8998: Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2025

• HR 1367: Establishing the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump.

• HR 1371: Strongly condemning the Biden Administration and its Border Czar, Kamala Harris’s, failure to secure the United States border.

Pete Sessions represents District 17, which includes Trinity County, in the U.S. House of Representatives.
