FORT WORTH — Groveton ISD cosmetology teacher Victoria Robertson was named Teacher of the Year at the recent Texas Industrial Vocational Association conference.

The TIVA Summer Conference was held July 14-19 in Fort Worth. TIVA is a professional organization for Career and Technical Educators certified in trade and industrial education.

Robertson said she wanted to make it known that she owes it all to God.

“I give God all the glory for this huge achievement,” she said. “Without his help none of this would have been possible. I am truly honored to have been nominated by an amazing educator and friend, Shawndelle Harrington, who has been a cosmetology educator for 20 years.”

Robertson was touched to have a respected cosmetology instructor such as Harrington notice the work she has done throughout the seven years teaching at Groveton.

“I will never forget the feeling I had when my name was called and walked across the stage accepting the teacher of the year award,” she said. “I hope I have made Groveton ISD proud and I will continue providing the best education to all of my students.”

Also at the conference, CTE instructors attend classes that help the attendees prepare for the new year. These are the only classes held for CTE teachers before the new school year begins.

“The beauty industry is constantly changing, and with these classes we learn new techniques from presenters at this conference that help us before school starts,” she said.
