Family member dies from gunshot

A July 20 family disturbance in the 3700 block of FM 3459 in Onalaska resulted in the death of a family member.

The Polk County Sheriff ’s Office responded to the scene to discover Gerald Fields, 56, of Onalaska, deceased. Witnesses reported that a disturbance occurred between two family members resulting in one dying from a single gunshot.

Sheriff ’s Office detectives, assisted by the Onalaska Police Department and Texas Rangers, processed the crime scene and conducted interviews.

Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Sarah Rasberry ordered an autopsy be performed by the Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.
