Residents muddle through with help from neighbors

I have so much to say about the State of Texas’s lack of preparation for Hurricane or Tropical Storm Beryl, but supposedly I am a lady.

However, I can say that I am disappointed that the designated centers here in Trinity were not open for its residents.

Thank God for angels of mercy; I know there were many who took care of their friends, families, and neighbors. I know a good Samaritan who took care of a 94-year-old veteran who has been paralyzed since he was 19 years old, and I don’t know how she did it.

I know of one church that held its VBS program last week for the children to come and have fun and be cool. They had a generator. Thank you, Dorcas Wills Memorial Baptist Church, for your generosity and caring. Please report other heroes to me so I can publicly thank them too in the upcoming issues.

Again, thank you Liberty Christian Center, Remnant Faith, Ladies in Action, Burning Hope Baptist Church, Loaves and Fishes, and Martin Senior Citizen Center for sponsoring the facilities that help our Trinity Community. You are the best heroes every week, Beryl or no Beryl.

•The Annual Summer conference for the ROTC church will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Trinity Community Center. Prayer in the Park is held each summer to provide music, free school items, food, door prizes and spiritual aspiration to the community of Trinity.

This event is sponsored by many churches in our city and county, and for more information or to sponsor a booth, donate gifts, provide music, food, or school supplies, your generosity would be greatly appreciated and welcomed, so contact Karen Dixon at (936) 581-6531.

•The second annual Back to School Supply Drive will be held July 27 and hosted by Lone Star Missionary Baptist Church, 502 W. Main St., in Trinity.

The event starts at 10 a.m. and ends when the school supplies are gone. Free backpacks and school supplies are to be given to pre-K to eighth-grade students.

Donations or money can be dropped off at the church on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. or Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. at the church. Please help to make this a successful endeavor.

For more Information, call Charolett Clayborne at (936) 662-5947, Pastor DeBose at (936) 355-1987 or Lula English-DeBose at (936) 355-3973.

•The SAAFE House annual Denim & Diamonds Bingo Fundraiser that was supposed to take place last weekend has been rescheduled for Aug. 10. The fundraiser will still take place at The Manor on Pinecrest Road from 6-10 p.m., and tickets and tables are available to be purchased from SAAFE House by calling (936) 291-3529. More info on this later next week.

•Houston Food Bank will be at the Blanche K. Werner Public Library in Trinity on several Saturdays in July and August, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., to service children under 18 years of age. The dates are July 20, and 27 and Aug. 3.

Each child will be given five meals that include breakfast and lunch until supplies run out. You must bring your child to receive this program or proof of guardianship if they are not able to attend. For more information, call Sophia at (936) 594-2087.

•Can you believe that TISD school starts in 23 days? The yellow buses will hit the road on Aug. 7 for the graduating class of 2025. If time goes any faster, I am going to turn into butter like the story book tale of yesterday.

•Don’t forget the Trinity High School Band is hosting its flag subscription fundraiser at this time and for more information you can email [email protected].
