While still recovering from the effects of the late April storms, Trinity County residents suffered high winds and rain after Hurricane Beryl made rainfall.

On July 8, the day the county was hit, Trinity Fire Department responded to 23 calls for service.

Fire Chief Keith Johnson said the majority of calls were for trees blocking roadways and on electrical lines, keeping firefighters busy keeping roads open.

Additionally, firefighters were called to a home in Timber Bay after a tree fell on a house, trapping the resident.

Johnson said that firefighters, along with a retired firefighter, were able to remove the victim with no injuries.

Firefighters also responded to a two-vehicle accident on Pinecrest Road; however no injuries were reported.

Groveton, Pennington, Apple Springs and Friday volunteer departments also were kept busy.

The Groveton Fire Department opened its doors to provide cooling and charging for city residents, since an anonymous donor provided a generator.

Without a doubt, though, the loss of power cost many dearly.

In light of that, Entergy Texas has secured a shareholder commitment of $125,000 to the American Red Cross to help support relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Beryl in Southeast Texas.

This contribution will help facilitate the provision of essential services such as shelter, food, medical care and other vital resources to assist those affected by the hurricane in their recovery process.

Hurricane Beryl’s impact has been substantial, leading to widespread damage and displacing many individuals in the area and across the state. The level of damage brought by the Category 1 hurricane underscores the urgent need for assistance and resources to aid those grappling from the storm’s impact.

Eliecer Viamontes, president and CEO of Entergy Texas, expressed the company’s dedication to providing assistance during this time of need.

“Entergy Texas is proud to stand alongside the Red Cross in supporting the relief efforts for those impacted by Hurricane Beryl in Southeast Texas,” he said. “Our commitment to helping communities in distress remains unwavering, and we are hopeful that our contribution will offer relief and comfort to those facing hardships in the storm’s aftermath.”
