“Global Feast” is the theme of this year’s Business Bitez Expo hosted by the Livingston- Polk County Chamber of Commerce from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 23 at the Polk County Commerce Center and everyone is invited. Each vendor is asked to bring a bite size appetizer, main course or dessert from a country of their choice, along with information and goodies to hand out to attendees. Attendees will receive a plate, silverware, bag and a passport. The passport consists of the names of vendors and those vendors will stamp your passport. Get all of the vendors’ stamps and be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a trip voucher valued at $1,000. There will be door prizes, food and information and this will be a time to get to know what is available in the community. Tickets are $10 in advance or $15 at the door.
SPCA of Polk County adoptions
During the month of July, the SPCA of Polk County has reduced the adoption fee for all black dogs to $15. This includes all shots, spay/neuter, worming, flea/tick treatment and microchip. This is a savings of hundreds of dollars, and the dogs are “driveout ready.” Go by the shelter at 802 S. Houston Ave. in Livingston to visit and pick out your favorite. Art League Show
The Polk County Memorial Museum is hosting the 3rd annual Livingston Art League Show through August 2. Polk County Memorial Museum is located at 514 W. Mill St. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays. Admission is free. Guided tours are available by appointment.

East Texas Conservation Expo
The Piney Wood Lakes Chapter Texas Master Naturalists will host an East Texas Conservation Expo from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Polk County Commerce Center located at 1015 Hwy. 59 Loop North in Livingston. The event is free to the public and will include inside and outside exhibits, booths, speakers, workshops, demonstrations and vendors. There will be planned programs on forestry and timber management, pond management and water quality, wildlife management, pasture restoration, prescribed fire, integrated pest management, cost share programs, conservation agencies, fish habitat, pollinator protection, land management planning, native planning and youth activities. Saddle, Buckle Playday Series The Polk County Youth Rodeo Saddle and Buckle Playday Series for 2024 has begun. The series will be held Sept. 21, Oct. 12 and Nov. 16. The events start at 9 a.m. and are held at Barney Wiggins Memorial Arena at 101 Fair St. in Livingston. Events featured are mutton bustin’, dummy roping, leadline, cloverleaf barrels, straight away barrels, spur, poles and goat slappin’ flippin’ and tying. Admission is free. Open Mic Singing
Indian Springs Chapel hosts an open mic singing at 5 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month at its location at 11386 U.S. Hwy. 190 East in Livingston. Following the singing, there is fellowship and then supper. Music Director Troy Riddle invites everyone to attend.
You Can Ministries
You Can Ministries has a new project for at risk youth in the county in which the ministry will serve supper for ages 6-18 from 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Food Pantry available
Fellowship in the Pines Church offers a monthly food pantry to Polk County residents from 10 a.m. to noon on the third Thursday of each month at the church which is located at 1936 FM 2610.
Opportunities available through Rotary Youth Exchange Students ages 15 to 18 and a half who are interested in studying abroad are encouraged to contact Rotary District 5910 Rotary Youth Exchange. Rotary provides a host family, food, school tuition and a monthly allowance. Participants pay for their airline ticket, insurance and preparation costs. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Backpack Bonanza from 3-6 p.m. July 26 at the Polk County Commerce Center. The free backpack and supplies event is open to the entire county, although the child must be present to get the supplies. Free backpacks, school supplies, student haircuts and personal hygiene items will be available.
