Polk County receives Presidential Declaration for FEMA Individual Assistance Program

Polk County receives Presidential Declaration for FEMA Individual Assistance Program

The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Livingston Municipal Library located at 707 N. Tyler Ave. reopened Monday afternoon just in time. Polk County has received a Presidential Declaration for FEMA Individual Assistance. The disaster recovery center will remain open and available from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.

Any changes to that schedule will be updated on the Polk County Office of Emergency Management’s Facebook page and website at polkcountyoem. com.

Polk County residents may sort and stage Hurricane Beryl disaster debris on the county-maintained road right-of-way. However, there are specific sorting and staging instructions and residents need to dispose of household garbage in the same manner utilized prior to the disaster.

If a contractor demolishes a home, part of a home, or does repairs on a home that produces construction-type debris, the contractor is responsible for the disposal of that debris. If you hire a contractor, make certain that debris removal is included in the bid and the contract you sign. If the storm caused the debris, then that debris can be moved to the right-of-way for pick-up by debris removal contractors.

If you hire a contractor to cut a tree off of your home, make certain the contractor is hauling off the debris.

The county can only assist with removal of disaster debris from the rightof- way when the homeowner has done the work themselves or utilized the service of unpaid volunteers.

Homeowners should check their insurance policies for any repair or other damage elements eligible for reimbursement.

The Polk County Office of Emergency Management and the Texas Department of Emergency Management are both encouraging you to complete an iStat state assessment tool if you sustained property damage as a result of Hurricane Beryl. An online damage report may be submitted at damage.tdem. texas.gov. This info helps officials connect impacted Texans with resources and services.

The City of Livingston is continuing to ask its residents to pile their stormrelated vegetative debris, such as limbs, by the curb and the city’s chipper trucks will come around to get it.

Texas Health & Human Services received federal approval to allow SNAP recipients impacted by Hurricane Beryl to apply for replacement benefits for food lost or destroyed. Application may be made by dialing 2-1-1 and selecting Option 8. Those applying for replacement benefits have until August 8 to apply.
