Did You Know

The hurricane is headed for Texas as I write this and it will cause some delays to some organizations plans, even though we do not know yet where it will move to.

The Coldspring Chamber of Commerce lunch set for Tuesday will be reset for a later date. Let us hope that by the time you read this in print Hurricane Beryl has left our area.

• Shepherd will soon have a new auto supply store. O’Reilly Auto Parts are not quite finished building the new store, but it is looking good. When it is finished it will be located on Highway 223 across from Family Dollar.

• The Small Business Development Center located in Sam Houston State University is a marvelous place to find help of many kinds for those in business or looking to start one. Business advice, workshops and events, specialty programs and online webinars and classes are available to anyone interested. You can have a one-on-one talk with an advisor, enjoy online classes or go to the class at the Center if you prefer. Go online to sbdc.uh.edu to find out more.

• June 29 was Adoption Day at the San Jacinto County Dog Rescue Shelter in Coldspring. Located on Hwy 2025, the Shelter has this special adoption day on the last Saturday of the month, but you can always visit and adopt.

Five dogs were adopted, mostly puppies, and the photo shows the volunteers and some new parents with Sandra Houston seated in the middle in blue. This lady devotes her time to caring and looking after the dogs who get the best of attention available. If you want to know more call (281) 450-3676.

• If you want to know what is going on in our county, please go to www.sanjacintocountybulletinboard. com. Linda Deeter will place your event on there free of charge, as do I in this column. It is amazing all the events we have in our county.

Be safe till next week. Contact the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce at (210) 995-7420 or the Coldspring Chamber at (936) 653-2184.

Yvonne Cones is president of the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Coldspring Chamber of Commerce.

Puppies are always popular at adoption day. COURTESY PHOTO
