City to take next steps with center

COLDSPRING — Now that the Community Center is formally in the hands of the city of Coldspring, the City Council will take the next steps toward renovation of the building.

Mayor John Benestante said that at the July 1 meeting, the council accepted the donation of center, and the deed was recorded the next day.

He said that now the city will finish its due diligence and have the property surveyed, as the city is looking to secure funds to add more square footage.

Benestante also said that the old center government board is now an advisory committee.

In other business, the council:

• approved the annual audit with no findings; • rejected acceptance of a right of way for Perry Drive, since the city’s attorney’s opinion was it would not benefit the city;

•discussed storm damage from the May stor ms, and is working with FEMA on several problem areas and funding fir repairs;

• approved Peoples State Bank as city depository; and

• approved a drug-free workplace policy for city employees.
