New slate of officers installed for Rotary

New slate of officers installed for Rotary

As the new year begins July 1 for the Rotary Club of Livingston, a new slate of officers was installed Thursday during the club’s noon meeting and the ceremony provided an opportunity for Outgoing President Brandon Wigent to reflect on the club’s accomplishments over the past year.

“Our club was chartered in 1936, 88 years ago. I joined in 2020 and attended about three meetings and then there was COVID and everything unraveled. We had to adapt, and it was a very difficult time,” Wigent said.

“We started this calendar year with 40 members, gained 10 new members and lost a few, and today we have 44 members. We have always supported youth and we continue to. We gave eight $500 scholarships to graduating seniors this year.

“Our grant was approved in full for the G.R.A.C.E. Pregnancy Outreach project. We were able to continue our partnership with Center of Hope. We helped about 90 individuals during the holidays with meals through our partnership with Brookshire’s.

“We were able to fully reinstate our pancake supper and our golf tournament. Both were successful events. We set lofty goals but met them,” he said.

Wigent recognized the outgoing officers – President-Elect Mark Waters, Secretary/ Board Member Will Watson, Treasurer Joe Roth and Directors Kole Puckett, Trina Fowlkes and Joe Haynes.

“I want to recognize a few others. Bev Reed tackled the membership committee. Will Watson handled PR. Our youth program and scholarships are handled by Blair McDonald and Corky Evans. The youth service awards were handled by Corky and Blake Thornton. Judy Cochran handled the Rotary Foundation. Joe Haynes handled the pancake supper. Kole Puckett and Rick Oliver handled the golf tournament. Mark Waters handled the empty stocking fund. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to stand at this podium. Our club is in great hands,” Wigent said.

“I thought our club had a great year last year and it was all the work of them,” Rotarian Corky Evans said of the outgoing officers prior to installing the new officers. The new officers are President Mark Waters, Immediate Past President Brandon Wigent, President-Elect Bev Reed, Secretary Will Watson, Treasurer Joe Roth, Sergeant at Arms Blake Thornton and Incoming Directors Trina Fowlkes, Joe Haynes, Rick Oliver and Daniel Barton.

“It is my privilege and honor to present this to Brandon,” newly installed President Mark Waters said, as he presented a plaque to Wigent. “It was important to Brandon to leave the club in as good or better shape as when he came in. He wanted to leave it better than he found it. I’m very, very honored to be the president and hope we can leave the club as well as Brandon left it.”
