CROCKETT — The Crockett Bulldogs took care of business on the road last week to set up a showdown with New Waverly for the District 23-3A championship.
Crockett and New Waverly both carried 12-1 marks into the district finale Tuesday night at The Hop.
The Dogs edged Tarkington 58-53 last Tuesday and knocked off Trinity 72-59 on Friday. New Waverly slipped past Onalaska 63-61 on Tuesday and then beat Tarkington 60-55 on Friday.
Trinity kept pace with Crockett for two quarters before the boys in blue took control in the third quarter.
After a 13-13 first quarter tie, Crockett took a 29-25 halftime lead and dominated the third quarter 31-15. The Bulldogs carried a 60-40 lead into the fourth, but the Tigers trimmed the gap to seven in the final period.
Jadyn Collins popped the nets for 28 points, Jaroderick Holmes followed with 15 (2 treys) and Antwaain Boston rounded out double figures with 10 (2 treys),
Jahkeim McKnight had 7 (2 treys), Chase Ivey 5 (1 trey), Zandric Anderson 5, Nate Ivey 2 and Tywoin Delane 1.
The Tigers were led by Cole Hortman with 18, Cam Anderson with 14 and Junior Hernandez with 11 (3 treys).
Crockett made 10 of 22 free throws (43%) while Trinity hit 10 of 14 (71%).
Against Tarkington, the game was tied 16-16 after a quarter but the Longhorns slipped in front 31-26 at halftime.
Crockett won the third period 14-9 to knot the score at 40-all and outscored the hosts 18-13 in the fourth to secure the win.
Collins led the Dogs offensively with 17 points and Holmes had 13, including a trey.
Boston scored 8 (1 trey) while Anderson, Delane, Courtney Byrd and McKnight chipped in 5 apiece.
Tarkington's Eniseli MaAlaelu led his team with 17 points.
Both teams shot well at the free throw line. The Bulldogs made 17 of 33 for 52% and the Longhorns hit 18 of 30 for 60 percent.
