Lady Eagles getting in summer workout time

The Woodville Lady Eagles have been taking advantage of summer workouts. The summer conditioning program consists of an aerobic workout followed by a weight training regimen.

The final phase allows athletes the use of open gym hours to work on specific sports related skills. The times are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday through Thursday for athletes going into 8th-12th grade. Volleyball and cross-country practices begin August 5 with an emphasis on team bonding for all athletes.

Head girls basketball coach Reginald Corbin has used this summer to prepare for next year’s season.

The girls are participating and being very competitive in summer league basketball in Groveton. Teams participating in the summer league are Woodville, Groveton, Crockett, Lovelady, and Kennard. Corbin stated, “The girls who are playing in the Groveton league and summer workouts will have an advantage next year, especially when it comes to conditioning testing. We need to be in great shape to play the Lady Eagle style of basketball.”

Two Woodville senior softball players represented the Lady Eagles in the on the West Team in the SouthEast Texas Coaching Association (SETCA) game held in Mont Belvieu at Barbers Hill High School. Both senior center fielder and senior first baseman Jade McQueen and shortstop Mallory Dunn will continue their softball careers at the collegiate level. The East team overtook the West 1-0.
