3rd annual Livingston Art League Show

The Polk County Memorial Museum will host the 3rd annual Livingston Art League Show July 9 through August 2. A meet and greet with the artists is slated for 1-3 p.m. on July 13. Polk County Memorial Museum is located at 514 W. Mill St. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. the second and fourth Saturdays. Admission is free. Guided tours are available by appointment.

Activities with Ranger Eric at Lake Livingston State Park Ranger Eric has a variety of fun activities planned for the month of June at Lake Livingston State Park. For starters, he will offer a PineyWoods Boardwalk Nature Trail Hike at 1 p.m. today (Thursday). To participate, meet him at the PineyWoods Boardwalk Nature Trail and enjoy a guided hike focusing on the diverse wildlife and plants inhabiting the park. Bring water and bug spray.

Join him for “Hands-On Nature Activities” at 3 p.m. today at the Nature Center located in the Park Store and learn how to safely explore nature. Each Thursday will be different and may include activities such as “Skins & Skulls,” “All About Turtles,” “Animal Sounds,” “Venomous & Non-Venomous Snakes,” “Alligators” and other nature-related activities. Bring your nature questions and he will help you get answers.

A night hike will be available at 8:30 p.m. on June 29, weather permitting. Meet Ranger Eric at the PineyWoods Boardwalk Trail parking lot for a night hike and learn about the different plants and animals found in the park and which ones like to show out at night. Bring a flashlight and mosquito spray.

Multiple blood drives available The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center has multiple nearby blood drives scheduled. You may schedule your donation by going to commitforlife.org. Mobile drives will be held at the following places:

•Roy O Martin located at 1923 U.S. Hwy. 287 West in Corrigan from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on June 27.

•American Legion Post 402 located at 6380 U.S. Hwy. 190 West in Livingston from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 29.

•Pine Forest Baptist Church located at 10537 U.S. Hwy. 190 West in Livingston from 2:30-7 p.m. on July 10.

Scuba Diving Into Friendship With God Scuba Diving Into Friendship With God is the theme of this year’s Vacation Bible School at First Methodist Church which is slated for 9 a.m. to noon June 24-28.

East Texas Conservation Expo The Piney Wood Lakes Chapter Texas Master Naturalists will host an East Texas Conservation Expo from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Polk County Commerce Center located at 1015 Hwy. 59 Loop North in Livingston. The event is free to the public and will include inside and outside exhibits, booths, speakers, workshops, demonstrations and vendors. There will be planned programs on forestry and timber management, pond management and water quality, wildlife management, pasture restoration, prescribed fire, integrated pest management, cost share programs, conservation agencies, fish habitat, pollinator protection, land management planning, native planning and youth activities. Saddle, Buckle Playday Series The Polk County Youth Rodeo Saddle and Buckle Playday Series for 2024 has begun. The series will be held Sept. 21, Oct. 12 and Nov. 16. The events start at 9 a.m. and are held at Barney Wiggins Memorial Arena at 101 Fair St. in Livingston. Events featured are mutton bustin’, dummy roping, leadline, cloverleaf barrels, straight away barrels, spur, poles and goat slappin’ flippin’ and tying. Admission is free. AA Groups

AA meets from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursdays in the family center at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church located at 2590 U.S. Hwy. 190 West in Livingston. For more information contact Carlos at 936-566-5765.

Al-Anon Groups

Reading Encourages Advanced Development Fundraising Fundraising efforts are always underway for R.E.A.D. (Reading Encourages Advanced Development), the Polk County sponsor for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Open Mic Singing

Indian Springs Chapel hosts an open mic singing at 5 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month at its location at 11386 U.S. Hwy. 190 East in Livingston. Following the singing, there is fellowship and then supper. Music Director Troy Riddle invites everyone to attend.

You Can Ministries

You Can Ministries has a new project for at risk youth in the county in which the ministry will serve supper for ages 6-18 from 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. Youth may come as early as 3 p.m. as there will be arts, crafts, painting, reading and assistance with homework. You Can Ministries is located at 908 S. Washington in Livingston. Caregivers Support Group

Are you caring for a loved one? Would you like to discuss common issues caregivers have with others in the same situation? Have you cared for someone in the past and would like to share your experiences in order to help others?

Then you are invited to attend a Caregivers Support Group hosted by the First Baptist Church of Providence. The group meets from 6-7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month at First Baptist Church of Providence located at 898 Providence Rd. off of Hwy. 146 South. The Happy Hookers Lake Livingston Fishing Club The Lake Livingston Fishing Club, also known as The Happy Hookers, meets at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month at the First Presbyterian Church located at 910 N. Food Pantry available

Fellowship in the Pines Church offers a monthly food pantry to Polk County residents from 10 a.m. to noon on the third Thursday of each month at the church which is located at 1936 FM 2610.

Opportunities available through Rotary Youth Exchange Students ages 15 to 18 and a half who are interested in studying abroad are encouraged to contact Rotary District 5910 Rotary Youth Exchange. Rotary provides a host family, food, school tuition and a monthly allowance. Participants pay for their airline ticket, insurance and preparation costs.
