Despite the date, holiday to be happening

Julia’s Tidbits

The Fourth of July is on Thursday this year and that creates havoc on celebrations on the real date as most people must go back to work the next day on Friday.

The city of Trinity is going to celebrate the Fourth of July on Friday, July 5th and not Thursday, because the fireworks display costs twice as much to buy it you pay to have them fire off on the Fourth of July.

Having fireworks displayed before or after the Fourth of July makes no sense to me either, so whatever will be will be. Please note, there are a few corrections to the July 4 activities listed below.

Fourth of July activities announced around the county so far are: —Westwood Shores Subdivision on July 29.

—Valley Ranch Fourth of July Fest on July 4 from 5-10 p.m. in Montgomery.

—The city of Trinity’s fireworks on July 5 at dusk.

—The city of Groveton annual celebration starts at 1 p.m. July 4 with a parade, then the park opens at 3 p.m. with a variety of entertainment. Fireworks go off at 9 p.m.

—McLeod Fireworks Show on July 6 at Barrett’s Landing.

• A horrible mistake was made last week. Areia Bacon is the new president of the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, not Aeria Baker. I have many good friends who have the last names of Baker, Baxter and Becker, so forgive me for my mental lapse. Areia said she would forgive me this one time.

Under her direction, new officers and board members will take office on July 1 and a meet and greet will be held soon.

The next meeting will be held on July 2 since the new air conditioning units have been installed in the Chamber Building and it will be cool. The Chamber Building is at 103 Stadium St.

See you there.
